the best reads of 2024
One of my favorite things to do at the end of each year is sit down and comb over all of the books that I’ve read and name my favorites. I read over a hundred books this year, but narrowed down eighteen that were stunning and I would highly recommend.
In literary fiction, Tom Lake and Beyond That, The Sea were absolute standouts. These ended up being my two top favorite reads of 2024, and I would recommend them to anyone. They are stunning and capture the essence of what good books should be.
In nonfiction, Beholding by Strahan Coleman was my favorite. I read this book in January, but I’ve been thinking about it over and over again throughout the year.
In contemporary fiction, Funny Story, This Summer Will Be Different and P.S. I Hate You were my favorites. I laughed and cried through each of them, and if that isn’t the hallmark of incredible character writing, I don’t know what is.
In historical fiction, The Things We Cannot Say was heart wrenching. This book was beautiful.
In fantasy, Divine Rivals and Ruthless Vows comprised a beautiful duet. Magical typewriters, an immersive world, and incredible character development made these fantasy standouts for me.
