the best christmas morning cinnamon rolls

In 1998, my parents got their electric bill. And on that bill was a recipe for “The World’s Greatest Cinnamon Rolls”. So we made them and it turns out, they are pretty amazing. We’ve made them every year since then. It was one of my favorite traditions that I’ve carried over with my own family. And I’m excited to share it with you and yours!

I’ve tweaked it a tiny bit over the years and the recipe reflects the kind of ingredients we keep in our home. If you don’t use grass-fed or raw butter, use the butter you have in your home. The same goes for cane sugar! You can adapt this to fit what kinds of ingredients you keep in your pantry.

INGREDIENTS

  • 2 cups milk (I use organic whole milk)

  • 1/2 cup cane sugar

  • 1 1/2 tsp Himalayan pink salt

  • 1/4 cup grass-fed butter

  • 1 package yeast (2 1/4 tsp)

  • 2 tsp baking powder

  • 1/2 tsp baking soda

  • 1/2 cup warm water

  • 6 cups unbleached flour

  • extra grass-fed butter

  • extra cane sugar

  • ground cinnamon

INSTRUCTIONS

Combine milk, butter, sugar, and salt in a saucepan until the butter is melted. Set aside to cool until it reaches room temperature. Once it cools, add the baking soda and baking powder. In a separate bowl, dissolve the yeast in the warm water. Add the yeast/water into the rest of the other ingredients and stir. Add the flour and stir. The dough will be slightly sticky. Cover and set aside to rise until double.

After the dough has risen to double, you can use it right away or place in the fridge overnight to use the next morning. Place the dough on a well floured surface. Roll out to a very large rectangle. Melt the extra butter and spread over the entire dough. Then sprinkle cane sugar over the melted butter. And then sprinkle generously with ground cinnamon. Roll the dough up in a long tube. Then cut into equal sized slices (I usually get 12-16 depending on the length of my rolled dough) and place in a buttered 9x13 pan.

Bake at 400 degrees Fahrenheit until the tops are all golden brown (about 30 minutes, but it will depend on your oven).

ICING

8oz cream cheese

8 tbsp grass-fed butter

3/4 lb powdered cane sugar

2 tsp vanilla

Mix the cream cheese, butter, and vanilla together with an electric beater. Add the powdered sugar in and mix until fully combined.

Enjoy!!
