diy non-toxic play dough

Happy Tuesday! I’ve got a super fun, easy DIY for you today - perfect for the quarantine happening. You can have it whipped up in about 7 minutes, and you can even add all the calming oils to it ;)

  • 2 cups flour

  • 1 cup salt

  • 2 tsp cream of tartar

  • 1 tbsp oil (I used olive, but melted coconut would work great too!)

  • 2 cups cold water

  • food coloring

  • essential oils

Add the flour, salt, cream of tartar, oil, and water to a pot over warm heat and stir until it is reaches the right texture. This will take about 5 minutes. Pull it off the stove and divide into how many colors/scents you want for this batch. Add your food coloring (or, even better, use natural dyes from food!). Once you have kneaded the food coloring into the play dough, add your essential oils. We love to coordinate the color of the oil label with the color of the play dough. I gave Alden 2-3 different choices for each color and he got to pick them out and add the oils to them.

You can use any oil, but I love to go with happy and calming ones personally.

We used:

  • pink play dough - frankincense

  • orange play dough - tangerine

  • yellow play dough - citrus fresh

  • green play dough- peace and calming

  • blue play dough - sacred mountain

All amazing for our emotions and are super gentle and calming scents. Just what I want when we are all cooped up inside :)

If you make it, be sure to tag me @hannah.jeffreys ! I would love to see what colors and scents your littles combine!
